If you love the look of wall paper but not the cost OR the thought of all the work it involves, this DIY On A Budget is the perfect solution for you! All you need to create a floral wall mural is a Sharpie and a little imagination!
I am in the middle of creating an office for myself out of a tiny guest bedroom in our home. The walls have been painted and I have big plans to add some cool plywood art too. I say big plans because sometimes those turn into big failures on my part. More often than I care to admit! Anyway, I thought I had everything figured out and then I went on Instagram. I was just scrolling like usual when all the sudden this amazing mural by Jen @ blissfully_eclectic stopped me dead in my tracks. I LOVED it and had to work it into the office makeover!

WHAT YOU’LL NEED FOR YOUR MURAL:
1. Pencils to draw your flowers
2. White erasers so they don’t leave marks on the wall.
3. Black Sharpies. I bought the big chisel point markers.
GRAB A PENCIL AND START DRAWING!!
Shelby started by sketching out her flowers with a lead pencil. I highly recommend this so you can make any changes before you put that Sharpie to the wall. This is the time to be fearless! You can’t do any damage with a pencil so go for it! The flowers do not have to be perfect. If you are still unsure about creating your own hand drawn floral mural, you can use some stencils like these. The cost is budget friendly and they can be used for other projects later.
Shelby started with a large flower as the center point. She then added an assortment of flowers in different sizes until the wall was covered. I was lucky enough that she has had a lot of practice drawing flowers for tattoo ideas. I have a beautiful Peony drawing of hers that I am saving for the next time I get some ink!
NOW FOR THE FUN PART!
Once you are happy with your drawn or stenciled flowers grab a Sharpie and start tracing. I had to laugh thinking of all the years I told my kids NOT to draw on their walls and now I was standing right next to my daughter doing exactly that!
You know what though? Life is short. Try new things in your home. Have fun! You can always paint over it later if you want to! O.K. Enough of my little pep talk, back to the wall! Use the Sharpie to outline all of the flowers on your mural. Leave it to COMPLETELY dry. If you don’t let it dry and try to erase the pencil marks you will smear the ink of the marker on the wall. That would be such a bummer after all your hard work so go watch some TV, have a coffee or chase some Pokémon while it dries.
YOU’RE ALMOST DONE!
The last thing to do is erase any visible pencil marks on your mural. I used the large white erasers from the art department. I didn’t want to risk any colored erasers leaving their mark on my walls. Better safe than sorry, right? I decided to leave the wall black and white but if you wanted to add some color you could absolutely paint your floral mural! You could even have a coloring party with a giant pack of Sharpies and let your friends and family join in on the fun!
