If you are like me then you are usually still wrapping gifts on Christmas Eve. Sometimes I think I spend more time wrapping the gifts than shopping for them! This post will show you how you can add farmhouse charm to your brown paper wrapped gifts and have them looking as pretty as the tree they sit underneath.
Adding Farmhouse Charm
I already had most everything at home I needed to make my brown paper a little fancier. The only thing I purchased were a few rolls of cute ribbon. When I say cute I mean REALLY cute and they were from Wal-Mart of all places! Just $2.88 a roll too! I definitely don’t want to spend a lot on something that is only going to be thrown away but I still want my gifts to look as pretty as possible.
Layer Ribbon And Twine
I really wasn’t kidding about how much I love the ribbon that I found. There were snowflakes and stars and my all time favorite, the gray felt houses and trees! Normally one layer of ribbon is good but I think two is even better! Funny, I feel the same way about my clothes and home decor too. Layer it up!
I took some twine and ran it the opposite direction on the box. No layering for the little houses and trees though because I wanted it to contrast against the paper. Tell me you aren’t dying over that cuteness! I mean…..look at it! (You know I will annoy everyone on Christmas morning saving that ribbon from the trash!)
Get Creative With The Details
When we decorated cookies last week I had some paper doilies we used to line the trays. I took the left overs and taped them to the brown paper. They almost look like giant snowflakes! The black leather cord and wooden ornament are from Michael’s craft store and were on our tree last Christmas. Not only does it all look pretty but it’s like getting a gift ON your gift!
Keeping with the black and white theme……the color palette of every modern farmhouse……I tied some string and added a smaller version of the 3D snowflake my son taught me to make. You can find the tutorial to make your own by clicking here.
Add something unexpected
Sometimes I fall in love with a roll of paper but the price doesn’t allow me to wrap many gifts with it. Well, I figured out a way to beat those expensive wrapping paper companies! If you layer the paper by adding a strip of the spendy stuff to the plain brown paper it goes a long way! I still get to have a bit of the fancy design and save money too. This little pom pom ribbon reminds me of the cotton stems you see in every farmhouse photo so it was a must have at that fab price of $2.88!
In true Shannon style I had to think outside the box (no pun intended I promise) for a few gift wrapping ideas. Yes ma’am, those are leather belts from the thrift store. Leather, buckles and braided rope are about as farmhouse as you can get! This belt really reminds me of a horse bridle or a saddle strap. Here’s a little fun fact about me. When I was little I had a pony named Squeaky and used to ride him in shows. I had flannel shirts and a cowboy hat and loved every minute of it! Awwww memories…..Now back to the belts! Look for child size belts so they will fit the gifts better and after the holidays you can wrap them around tall pillar candles to reuse them!
Don’t Forget the Kiddos
I couldn’t finish the post without a little candy and the traditional Christmas colors! These little burlap bags hung on our tree last year too. I’m glad I kept them because they are perfect for tying to a strand of red wooden beads and filling with treats. They would also be a fun way to give a gift card too!
I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did and it gave you some last minute ideas to wrap your own gifts. I’m off to finish wrapping myself now. Maybe I’ll set a personal record and be done a few days early!
