Getting your hands on some books!
I always check the obvious places like thrift stores, yard sales and consignment shops for books. I recently found out that the schools and libraries “discard” damaged books! A friend of mine brought me a whole box that were going to the trash. The thought of that makes me so sad. I mean, if they can’t be read they should at least be used to make our home prettier, right?
If you have a few with damaged covers don’t throw them away! Be creative with them and add fabric or even some birch bark ribbon like I did. Get out that hot glue gun and attach it to the old cover. The texture is amazing and takes using vintage books around your home to a whole new level of cool!
Get yourself some fat stacks
In my opinion you can never have too many vintage books. I use them everywhere and for everything! You will find them in my home under candlesticks and lamps for added height. They are also grouped on empty shelves and benches to give some character to an otherwise boring space. The added benefit is you look really smart when you have huge stacks of books sitting around. 😉
Use vintage books to get crafty
Last year I wanted a book page wreath in the worst way but the thought of hot gluing all those pages made me cringe! There had to be a better and easier way to make one so I put on my creative cap and came up with the idea to use floral pins! No burnt fingers or hot glue strings to pick off my wreath. I felt like a genius! The first blog post I ever wrote included a tutorial for the no glue book page wreath. If you want to try to make your own just click here (WARNING! It was the first post I ever wrote. It ain’t pretty but it gives you the info you need!)
